Size guide

We size rings in South African / UK letters. All you need is a ruler with millimetres. Rings over R 2,000 include a free first resize within 30 days.

Enter your measurement

mm

  1. 1 Measure a ring you already own

    0 10 20 30mm inside: 17.3 mm = size N½
    1. Choose a ring that fits the finger you're buying for.
    2. Lay it flat and measure straight across the inside, edge to edge, at the widest point, in millimetres. Don't include the metal.
    3. Enter the number above, or find it in the inside diameter column of the chart.
  2. 2 Measure your finger

    0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70mm pen mark at 54.4 mm = size N½
    1. Wrap a thin strip of paper around the base of your finger, where the ring will sit. It should be snug, but still slide over your knuckle.
    2. Mark where the paper meets with a pen.
    3. Lay the strip flat on a ruler and read the length in millimetres.
    4. Enter the number above (choose "around your finger"), or find it in the inside circumference column.
    • Measure at the end of the day, when your fingers are warm and slightly larger.
    • If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size in between.
    • Between two sizes? Choose the larger one, especially for wide bands.
    • Paper is better than string, which stretches. Measure two or three times.
  3. 3 Print our ring sizer

A finger strip and ring circles on two A4 pages.

Check before you measure: printers often shrink pages to fit, which gives the wrong size. Print at 100% / Actual size with "Fit to page" off, then measure the check lines on the sheet with a ruler. Each must be exactly 80 mm; if not, print again.

Chandray is a sterling silver ring with a marquise opal and a marquise emerald, each framed by a halo of diamonds (0.17ct), on a split, bypass-style band. The split shank divides the band in two, a graceful setting for the matching marquise shapes of the two stones.

Wear it on its own to let the stones shine. A lovely gift for her. Hand-picked by our founders in India.

About Emerald

Emerald is the green to bluish green variety of the mineral beryl, with its colour linked to chromium.

Birthstone
May
Hardness
7.5–8 (Mohs)
Everyday wear
Emerald has only fair to good toughness, so it needs more care in wear than ruby or sapphire; protect it from hard knocks.
Care
Clean gently with warm, soapy water. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, which can weaken stones that already have fractures, and steam, which can draw out the oils or resins used to fill them.
Meaning and tradition
Emerald's green has long been linked with rebirth and spring. In folklore it was believed to let its owner foresee the future, reveal whether a lover's promise was true, and make the wearer an eloquent speaker; it is the gem for 20th and 35th wedding anniversaries.
About Opal

Opal forms from silica left behind in rock by evaporating water. Precious opal shows flashes of rainbow colour ('play-of-colour') because it is made of tiny stacked spheres that split light into spectral colours.

Birthstone
October
Hardness
5–6.5 (Mohs)
Everyday wear
Opal is soft with very poor to fair toughness, so it scratches easily and is best in earrings and pendants, or in rings with a protective setting and occasional wear.
Care
Warm, soapy water is the only safe way to clean opal. Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners, high heat, sudden temperature changes and strong light.
Meaning and tradition
The Romans saw opal as a symbol of love and hope, and in European tradition it stood for hope, purity and truth; because it shows every colour, it was long regarded as the luckiest gem. The idea that opal is unlucky comes from a 19th-century novel, not ancient belief, and opal is the gem for 14th wedding anniversaries.

Meanings and traditions are beliefs people have held about these stones, not proven effects, and are no substitute for medical advice.
