Size guide

We size rings in South African / UK letters. All you need is a ruler with millimetres. Rings over R 2,000 include a free first resize within 30 days.

Enter your measurement

mm

  1. 1 Measure a ring you already own

    0 10 20 30mm inside: 17.3 mm = size N½
    1. Choose a ring that fits the finger you're buying for.
    2. Lay it flat and measure straight across the inside, edge to edge, at the widest point, in millimetres. Don't include the metal.
    3. Enter the number above, or find it in the inside diameter column of the chart.
  2. 2 Measure your finger

    0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70mm pen mark at 54.4 mm = size N½
    1. Wrap a thin strip of paper around the base of your finger, where the ring will sit. It should be snug, but still slide over your knuckle.
    2. Mark where the paper meets with a pen.
    3. Lay the strip flat on a ruler and read the length in millimetres.
    4. Enter the number above (choose "around your finger"), or find it in the inside circumference column.
    • Measure at the end of the day, when your fingers are warm and slightly larger.
    • If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size in between.
    • Between two sizes? Choose the larger one, especially for wide bands.
    • Paper is better than string, which stretches. Measure two or three times.
  3. 3 Print our ring sizer

A finger strip and ring circles on two A4 pages.

Check before you measure: printers often shrink pages to fit, which gives the wrong size. Print at 100% / Actual size with "Fit to page" off, then measure the check lines on the sheet with a ruler. Each must be exactly 80 mm; if not, print again.

About Lapis lazuli

Lapis lazuli is a rock rather than a single mineral, made mainly of blue lazurite with white calcite and golden flecks of pyrite; its colour ranges from greyish blue to intense royal blue and deep indigo.

Hardness
5-6 (Mohs)
Everyday wear
Pendants, earrings and brooches can be worn daily with little worry, while rings and bracelets need protective settings and are best for occasional wear.
Care
Clean with a soft brush and mild soap; avoid steam and ultrasonic cleaners and chemical solvents.
Meaning and tradition
Treasured for over 6,500 years, lapis was traditionally associated with royalty and the divine, and 18th-century courtiers used it to say "good luck" or "love me". Many people today associate it with insight, intuition and affection.

Meanings and traditions are beliefs people have held about these stones, not proven effects, and are no substitute for medical advice.

A note on value
