About Onyx
Onyx is a type of chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz) with straight, parallel bands of colour, which sets it apart from agate's curved bands.

- Onyx has "excellent" wearability and makes exceptionally durable jewellery for everyday wear.

- Clean onyx only with a soft brush, mild detergent and warm water, and avoid ultrasonic or other mechanical cleaners; prolonged strong sunlight may fade dyed stones.

- Onyx folklore is famously sombre: Victorians used it in mourning jewellery, and its red-and-white cousin sardonyx was traditionally worn to lift melancholy. Many people today simply love its classic "basic black" look.
