Size guide

We size rings in South African / UK letters. All you need is a ruler with millimetres. Rings over R 2,000 include a free first resize within 30 days.

Enter your measurement

mm

  1. 1 Measure a ring you already own

    0 10 20 30mm inside: 17.3 mm = size N½
    1. Choose a ring that fits the finger you're buying for.
    2. Lay it flat and measure straight across the inside, edge to edge, at the widest point, in millimetres. Don't include the metal.
    3. Enter the number above, or find it in the inside diameter column of the chart.
  2. 2 Measure your finger

    0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70mm pen mark at 54.4 mm = size N½
    1. Wrap a thin strip of paper around the base of your finger, where the ring will sit. It should be snug, but still slide over your knuckle.
    2. Mark where the paper meets with a pen.
    3. Lay the strip flat on a ruler and read the length in millimetres.
    4. Enter the number above (choose "around your finger"), or find it in the inside circumference column.
    • Measure at the end of the day, when your fingers are warm and slightly larger.
    • If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size in between.
    • Between two sizes? Choose the larger one, especially for wide bands.
    • Paper is better than string, which stretches. Measure two or three times.
  3. 3 Print our ring sizer

A finger strip and ring circles on two A4 pages.

Check before you measure: printers often shrink pages to fit, which gives the wrong size. Print at 100% / Actual size with "Fit to page" off, then measure the check lines on the sheet with a ruler. Each must be exactly 80 mm; if not, print again.

About Aquamarine

Aquamarine is the green-blue to blue variety of the mineral beryl, usually a light, pastel greenish blue. Its name comes from the Latin for 'seawater'.

Birthstone
March
Hardness
7.5–8 (Mohs)
Everyday wear
Aquamarine is durable enough for everyday jewellery if protected from scratches and hard knocks.
Care
Warm, soapy water is always safe; ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine unless the stone has liquid inclusions or fractures. Avoid exposing it to heat.
Meaning and tradition
In folklore, sailors believed aquamarine would calm the waves and keep them safe at sea, and it was thought to bring happiness in marriage. Its clear, water-like colour is said to symbolise purity of spirit, and it is the gem for 19th wedding anniversaries.

Meanings and traditions are beliefs people have held about these stones, not proven effects, and are no substitute for medical advice.
